Shipping Schedule (Live Poultry):
- January–August: Ships 3 days per week
- September–December: Ships 1–2 days per week
Important Delivery Information:
- Live poultry is typically held at your local Post Office for pickup
- Customers must collect orders promptly upon arrival
- Orders not picked up within 8 hours will void the 48-hour guarantee
- Uncollected poultry may be rehomed by USPS (no refund or reshipment issued)

- Any losses must be reported within:
- 48 hours (via phone or email)
- 6 days from ship date (via website form)
- Photo evidence may be required
- Approved claims will receive a refund or credit (not exceeding original purchase price)
- Incorrect shipping details provided by customer
- Failure to pick up order on time
- Improper care after delivery
Description
Rhode Island Red Started Pullets
As the name suggests, this breed was developed in Rhode Island and is even the state’s official bird. It has many profitable characteristics such as they are calm birds and are among the best layers for a heavy breed. They lay around 4-6 large brown eggs weekly and are rarely broody. IMPORTANT ORDERING INFORMATION: Meyer Hatchery offers started chickens in limited quantities for shipping or for pick up in Polk, Ohio. Don’t forget to bring a box or other container for transportation from the hatchery to their new home. Click here to read more about our retail store including hours and directions.
We can also ship started birds directly to your local post office. Meyer Hatchery will pack and ship the birds in an approved USPS shipping container, include a gel supplement to keep your birds hydrated in transit, and ship them express for overnight delivery to most locations.
Started chickens are approximately 16-20 weeks of age. They are fully vaccinated, beak trimmed, floor raised, and treated for intestinal worms, as needed.
Due to conditions beyond our control; such as feed, environment, or lighting, we are unable to guarantee the production rate and/or start of production of these birds.
